Hayri Şengün is an artist working primarily in sculpture, as well as in engraving, ceramics, and painting. In his practice, he establishes a direct and physical relationship with the material; he understands thinking as a process that evolves through form making and touching. His works emerge from a dialogue between form and process, often shaped by controlled accidents.

 

Hayri Şengün completed his undergraduate and master’s studies in the Department of Fine Arts at Bilkent University, where his master’s thesis and exhibition questioned ocularcentrism and emphasized tactility.

 

Based in Ankara, Hayri Şengün continues his practice in his personal studio and has taught courses in art history, drawing, and anatomy. He is currently teaching a foundational design course in the Department of Visual Communication Design at TED University.
